Both ceramic tiles and vitrified tiles are famous for their parameters. Both tiles are popular choices among homemakers. However, there is a huge difference between ceramic and vitrified tiles as people use both kinds of tiles.
Their main difference lies like how they are made and their respective pros and cons. So let’s look at the major differences between ceramic and vitrified tiles.
In the case of vitrified tiles, they are made of a particular mixture containing clay and elements like silica, quartz, and feldspar, whereas ceramic tiles are made of clay. It is called earthen clay, and the ceramic tile has a different composition.
For vitrified tiles, the name is derived from the word glass or the process of making glass. Vitrified tiles are always known for their capacity to absorb water and also for being stain resistant. It exhibits a non-porous nature. Vitrified tiles have those ingredients where the mixture melts on applying a very high temperature, and a glass substrate is formed throughout the tile. This tile uses a dye that makes the color consistent throughout the tiles, so if the surface of the tile chips off, then a similar color is exposed underneath.
The texture of vitrified tiles is smooth and glossy. So this is one of the most significant pros for these tiles. Compared to ceramic tiles vitrified ones are stronger and also absorb less water. Compared to ceramic tiles the installation of the vitrified tile is tough. It gives an artificial look to homes. Vitrified tiles are expensive too.
However ceramic tiles are plain clay tiles. Since they are made of a simple mixture of clay and water, they are not that strong as compared to vitrified tiles. Therefore this becomes a significant disadvantage. For a combination resulting in ceramic tiles, few colors are also added to obtain a large selection. Unlike vitrified tiles, these tiles are very porous and thus absorb water quickly. They are glazed to make them resistant to water.
Thus vitrified tiles and ceramic tiles primarily differ in composition. The texture of ceramic tiles are comparatively rough and external gaze is applied for a glossy look. The ceramic tiles are relatively weak and absorb more water. But their installation is very easy, low resistant to stains and higher water absorption rate.
Know these differences, and you will then have your own desired and suitable tile.
